1. Define the protection objective
Decide whether the project needs very early warning, a main fire alarm, equipment-level protection, room protection, return-air detection or a combination. The objective controls sensitivity, sampling positions, staged alarms and response procedures.

2. Establish the environmental boundary
Record normal and extreme temperature, humidity, dust, condensation, corrosive gases, airflow velocity and every HVAC mode. A detector temperature range does not remove the need for filters, moisture control or special materials.

3. Determine network scale and channels
Sketch the candidate sampling route, then calculate pipe length, hole diameters, pressure, transport time and airflow balance in the current ASD PipeFlow software. When two areas need independent operation, distinguish a branched single zone from two independent channels.

4. Confirm interfaces and maintainability
Check relay capacity, networking, smoke-level indication, event memory, power supply, installation clearances, test access and the maintenance route. Maintainability is part of model selection, not an issue to postpone until construction.
5. Complete approval and market review
A certificate must be checked against the exact model, configuration, version and market. An international approval mark does not mean automatic acceptance in every country. Product availability and the appointment of PEIEN must also be confirmed for the destination market.

Which parameter should be checked first when selecting an ASD model?
Start with the protection objective, detection layer and number of independent channels, not maximum area. Then review airflow, environment, pipe topology, interfaces and the approval scope for the destination market.
Can an ASD model be confirmed without a PipeFlow calculation?
A candidate model can be shortlisted, but a construction-ready network cannot be confirmed. Hole sizes, pressure, balance and transport time must be calculated in the current Securiton ASD PipeFlow software.
